The Beatson Institute for Cancer Research

Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres. It supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Proteomics Group, headed by Dr. Sara Zanivan, develops and utilises various MS-based platforms for the quantitative analysis of a wide range of biological samples, from single proteins to complete/in-depth proteomes of cells or tissues. The group works with researchers to provide a new level of understanding in tumour biology.

You will operate our mass spectrometers (LTQ-Orbitrap Velos, LTQ-Orbitrap Elite, and Q-Exactive HF, Thermo Scientific) and nLCs (EASY nLC II and 1200, Thermo Scientific) and utilise various software packages (MaxQuant/Perseus and Skyline) for data analysis. Supporting various cancer proteomics projects, you will liaise with personnel in research groups, carry out regular instrument maintenance and sample/data analysis. The role includes using and developing mass spectrometry and sample preparation methods.

You will have a relevant degree and strong laboratory skills. Experience working with sample preparation, Orbitrap mass spectrometer and LC in the proteomic field are essential. Knowledge of data analysis with the above software packages is desirable. Excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and the ability to work well in a team are essential as the role involves active interactions with research scientists and mass spectrometry users.
