New Robotic Telescope – Project Scientist - 3 years fixed term

Liverpool John Moores University - Astrophysics Research Institute / Faculty of Engineering and Technology

Liverpool John Moores University owns and operates a 2.0-m robotic telescope (“The Liverpool Telescope”) on La Palma in the Canary Islands. Working with international partners we now intend to build a 4.0m class robotic telescope on the same site.

We seek a project scientist to take responsibility for maintaining and updating the telescope science case to take advantage of emerging opportunities in time domain astrophysics. You will work with engineering staff to ensure the telescope design will meet the science requirements and to organize independent reviews. You will also take a lead in developing the specification of the robotic and scheduling software for the telescope. A significant part of the role will be outward facing, working with stakeholders and potential users to promote the facility. You will also be expected to contribute to the research work of the Institute at an internationally competitive level.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Iain Steele (Liverpool Telescope Director) email: i.a.steele@ljmu.ac.uk

LJMU is committed to achieving equality of opportunity.
