The Project

The University of Essex in partnership with Push Energy offers an exciting opportunity to a candidate to lead and project manage the development of the soiling assessment system, which includes the design and specification of the methodology, the hardware, as well as the software required to meet the project brief.

Please note this role is subject to funding approval.

Appointment will be made as Research Officer.

Duties of the Post

The duties of the post will include:

  • Plan a research approach to assess solar asset soiling - using appropriate technical methodology 
  • Design and develop a testing roadmap to a working prototype to analyse how soiling can be remotely monitored and managed 
  • Present findings to Push Energy stakeholders and liaise with university partners as and where required 
  • Support the development of research publications with the Push Energy team and university stakeholders 

Key Requirements

The post holder must have:

  • BSc (Hons) Electrical Engineering 
  • MSc Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering or a related discipline
  • Knowledge and experience of solar PV and quality assessment
  • Knowledge and experience of embedded system design
  • Knowledge and experience of MATLAB, Python or C++ Programming
  • Knowledge of sensors and signal processing

Push Energy, 1 & 2 Tollgate Business Park, Tollgate West, Stanway, Colchester, Essex, CO3 8AB


  • The potential to study a part fee-waived qualification via the university. 
  • Full access to university resources to complete the project.
