Rothamsted Research is the world’s longest running agricultural research institute, globally recognised for excellent science and lasting benefits to agriculture and farming practices over more than 170 years. Examples of major impacts arising from our research include organo-phosphate fertilisers, pyrethroid insecticides and experimental statistics (Fischer’s statistical tests).

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to proactively identify and evaluate innovation and commercial opportunities, seek out exploitable IP projects, market the Institute’s IPR and engage with commercial partners/funders/investors to maximise the translation of our results into viable products, raise commercial income and realise broader tangible outcomes from the Institute’s research.

The role holder will support the Director of Science Innovation Engagement and Partnerships (SIEP) in the management of the Institute’s innovation and commercialisation activities and will provide commercial guidance to the Legal Team on the Institute’s portfolio of IPR.

The role holder will have a strong track record in evaluating innovation, commercial and IPR opportunities, innegotiation of initial terms with businesses and with helping scientists develop relationships with industry partners; from identifying opportunities for partnering to supporting the scientists on negotiations. They should have experience of providing strategic as well as practical advice on IPR and commercialisation and be knowledgeable on innovation opportunities in agri-techor related sectors. Suitable candidates will have strong interpersonal skills and business acumen, prior experience of commercialisation activities and beable to communicate effectively to both researchers and stakeholders.
