PhD Studentship in MEMS Inertial Sensors

A PhD studentship is available to address the design, modelling, test and characterisation of a new type of MEMS gyroscope. The project will involve modelling and simulation of the dynamics, the associated design of closed-loop control and signal conditioning circuits, and the test and characterisation of manufactured devices, and integrated sensor assemblies.

Applications of such a device could potentially include navigation systems for pedestrians and autonomous vehicles, and this will be explored in collaboration with external partners. Funding under this studentship is provided under a studentship agreement with an external industry partner, and the selected student will be expected to sign a research agreement prior to joining the course.

Applicants should have (or expect to obtain by the start date) at least a good 2.1 degree (and preferably a Masters degree) in Engineering or Physical Sciences or equivalent from an overseas institution. The candidate will be expected to have a background / keen interest in mathematical modelling and experimental build of sensor systems.
