Canterbury Christ Church University has recently created an integrated employability, research and enterprise service with four key areas of focus: employment and enterprise; employability and skills; research and innovation funding; research and enterprise integrity and development.

The Role

This post is one of two Directors within the employability, research and enterprise service, and is responsible for the Research and Innovation Funding Unit and the Research and Enterprise Integrity and Development Office.

The Research & Innovation Funding Unit (RIFU) provides strategic and targeted support for academic staff to seek and secure funding for their research and innovation activities. This includes identification of core funding opportunities and support for bid development, alongside strategic advice and support for faculties to develop their research portfolio and capacity. The Unit comprises a Head, three Research & Innovation Managers and two Research & Innovation Officers.

The Research and Enterprise Integrity and Development Office (REIDO) oversees the development and implementation of research, knowledge exchange and enterprise policy, processes and practice to ensure research and enterprise is of the highest quality and meets all internal and external standards. The Office has a specific remit for: research and knowledge exchange project governance and ethics; management of the Research Excellence Framework (REF); researcher development and capacity building. The Office comprises a Head, two Academic Research Leads, a Research and Enterprise Integrity Manager, a Contracts and Compliance Manager and a Research and Enterprise Integrity Officer.

The Director of Research Development will provide strategic leadership in relation to research development, integrity and excellence. This will include leading engagement with external stakeholders and funders to generate high levels of interaction to support strategic goals for research development. It will also include the development of internal processes and systems to support integrity, excellence and staff development for research and enterprise.


With significant and diverse experience of research development, including the development of strategies for securing external funding for research and innovation, and the development of policies and processes to deliver research of the highest standards of integrity and excellence, the successful applicant will have led research development in a cross institutional or faculty-wide context, developing and implementing strategy and plans to deliver successful outputs and outcomes.
