Deputy Year Director -Year 3

The Centre for Medical Education within the School of Medicine at Cardiff University is looking to recruit an experienced academic to the post of Year 3 Deputy Year Director for the Undergraduate Medical Programme (MBBCh). The C21 MB BCh programme is an innovative undergraduate medical course based on the close integration of clinical learning with basic science and cutting edge biomedical research. The programme’s core values emphasise the importance of patient safety, team working and professionalism, alongside a commitment to scholarship, modern science learning and the importance of the doctor – patient relationship.

The role holder will have a supporting role with academic responsibility for aspects of the content, development and delivery of Year 3 of the programme, supporting the Year Director to ensure the programme is financially sustainable, meets internal and external requirements and provides a high quality educational experience for our students. The Deputy Year Director will assist in the curriculum map for the Year ensuring there is progression of student learning as the students move from one year to another, eliminate duplication, and the programme effectively applies the most modern education theory.  The Deputy Year Director will liaise with the Assessment Team to ensure that all assessment activity is high quality and delivered according to schedule.
We are looking for an experienced medical educator with significant teaching experience in the area of Medicine at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. You should evidence excellent communication and IT skills, to include the ability to present complex and conceptual basic science topics clearly and confidently to others, using high level skills and a range of media.

You should have the ability to provide appropriate pastoral and academic support to students by appreciating the needs of individual learners and their circumstances and the ability to undertake appropriate academic administrative tasks associated with the programmes of study.

Evidence of creating inclusive/enabling teaching and learning environments for students and evidence of a working knowledge of undergraduate assessment and feedback strategies as applied to MBBCh & BSc programmes of study are also key skills for this role.

The post is part-time, 7.5 hours per week (2 sessions), available from January 2018 and is on-going.

Salary: £72,205 - £93,742 per annum, pro-rata for hours worked (Clinical D6 scale)

The role is also suitable for a qualified General Practitioner and will be on the GP Educator salary scale at a point GP00 £81,807 per annum (pro-rata).
