Synthetic Chemistry Teaching Laboratory Technician

University of Southampton - Chemistry Education / Training

A technician position is available in the Chemistry Department’s Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories to work with the laboratory manager Dr. Thomas Logothetis.

The post involves providing effective and efficient technical support for the smooth operation of the teaching laboratory. This typically includes maintaining the infrastructure, equipment and chemical stock as well as technical support to teaching, outreach and external visitors. The role also comprises assisting the laboratory manager in education and administrative tasks. You will work as part of a small team ensuring the synthesis-based laboratory is ready for teaching on a daily basis.

Applications are invited from candidates with an experience of (synthetic) chemistry and enthusiasm for supporting students in their drive to learn practical chemistry; from candidates with an excellent work ethic and a strong commitment to get involved in the general running of the laboratory. You are expected to adhere to our strict safety standards and to be committed to serving the needs of our undergraduate students.

Southampton is one of the best places in the UK for chemistry teaching and research and the Chemistry department has a national and international reputation for excellence. The two Chemistry teaching laboratories on the Highfield Campus will undergo significant modernisation in the near future and you will then become part of a new team providing support across both laboratories.

This post is available from January 2018. For informal enquiries, contact Dr. Thomas Logothetis (thomas.logothetis@soton.ac.uk), Chemistry, University of Southampton.

Applications should include a cover letter explaining why you are interested in, and suitable for the position, and a CV that includes at least two referees who can be contacted before interview.

Please note that applications from agencies will not be accepted unless indicated in the job advert.
