Assistant Professor - Campaigns and Public Opinion

IE University - School of International Relations (IESIR)

IE University’s School of International Relations (IESIR) seeks qualified applicants for a tenure track faculty position in Campaigns and Public Opinion. The successful candidate will have a strong publication record of monographs and top-tier international peer reviewed articles, or the proven potential of producing them in the coming two years. We are especially, but not exclusively, interested in candidates whose research addresses the role of emerging technologies such as social media in campaigns and elections; and/or who are working with advanced methods in statistical or experimental analysis.

Candidates will be asked to teach courses in Public Opinion, Political Communication, Research Methods, and Statistics and Forecasting; and should show acumen for innovative, applied teaching methods focused on critical thinking and problem solving.

Beyond these traditional academic criteria, we seek academics with the capacity to engage in meaningful and policy relevant work, and to participate in contemporary policy debates. As well, we seek faculty members to be institution-builders: to apply for research grants, participate in affiliated research centers and academic programs, and expand IE’s current network and partnerships.

Applications should include a cover letter and vita, 1-2 current research papers (including the job-market paper), three academic references, a 1-page statement of teaching philosophy, and evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., teaching evaluations). A PhD degree from a recognized department of Political Science or Public Policy is required. Entry-level ABD candidates must demonstrate clear evidence that the PhD will be complete by July, 2018. Send applications with the subheading Campaigns and Public Opinion to IESIR1@ie.edu.

The IESIR is part of IE University and the IE Business School, located in Madrid and Segovia, Spain; and is a full-member of the Association of Professional Schools in International Affairs (APSIA). We are committed to world-class professional education and academic research in international affairs, public policy, and the social sciences. As well, we are committed to becoming a global leader in research and training relating to the governance of emerging technologies.

We are able to offer a competitive remuneration package, attractive teaching commitments, and an enriching and cosmopolitan work environment in the heart of Madrid. Our working language is English, and both our faculty and students body are highly diverse and international. IE University is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and strongly encourages applications from individuals who will expand the ethnic and gender diversity of our faculty.
