Research Fellow

Queen's University Belfast - Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences

Founded in 1845 as Queen’s College Belfast, we became an independent university in 1908. Today, we’re a member of the Russell Group, combining excellence in research and education with a student-centred ethos.

This post is available until 31 January 2020 and will seek to establish methods to address questions pertaining to germline cancer predisposition. They will contribute to ongoing studies of the underlying functional mechanisms by which common and rare germline variation confers risk of breast and other cancers using a variety of molecular biology techniques. In particular it is expected that the candidate will develop and apply CRISPR based genomic targeted editing techniques to candidate predisposition loci; perform analysis of chromatin interactions between predisposition loci and putative gene targets using chromatin conformation capture; establish and maintain suitable in vitro models to support functional studies of cancer predisposition.

Our five core values (Respect, Integrity, Excellence, Ambition, Connected) have been developed by staff and students. They express our shared understanding of what we believe, how we aim to behave and what we aspire to be as an international organisation.

The successful candidate must:

  • Have obtained or be within 6 months of obtaining (from closing date of post) a PhD in molecular biology or closely related discipline.
  • Have 3 years relevant experience to include:

-  Experience in wet-lab techniques for genomic analysis

-  Relevant experience in a range of molecular biology techniques including shRNA, siRNA, real-time PCR, cloning, isogenic cell-line development, luciferase and other reporter-based assays.
