The Post

The Faculty of Natural Sciences is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Cyber Security as part of an exciting new University of Stirling initiative to expand Cyber Security research and teaching. The post will boost the strong synergy between Cyber Security and existing research in Data Analytics within Computing Science and Mathematics.

Description of Duties

We are seeking applicants who have an excellent research reputation with the potential to be future research leaders. Candidates should therefore have research interests in Cyber Security that align with our Data Sciences research group. Successful applicants will be expected to significantly boost our activity in this area and will be given the freedom to shape a joint future direction. The University and the Division are keen to see this area flourish.

Applicants, who may be Computer Scientists or Mathematicians, are invited to apply the post which will complement the capability of the existing Data Science group and make a significant contribution to cyber security capacity building within this growing research group. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute quality papers of 4* standard to our REF, to secure significant research income and to contribute towards our societal impact.

Essential Criteria

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in Computing Science and/or Cyber Security or related area.
  • An internationally outstanding academic record of research in Computer Science and Cyber Security or a related area.
  • An appropriate portfolio of research outputs to submit to the forthcoming REF exercise.
  • An appropriate portfolio of research funding.
  • An established record of successful teaching.
  • A self-reliance and ability to cope with pressure and conflicting demands.
  • A commitment to equality of opportunity for students and staff.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal skills and presentation.
  • Willingness to develop learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level in CS&M.
  • Willingness to manage, supervise and support research students and assistants.
  • Well established research reputation and professional standing.
