Senior Category Manager - Indirects

Cambridge is one of the world's leading universities renowned for outstanding achievement. The University has a non-pay annual spend of approximately £400 million and is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced professional to join a growing team of thirteen providing procurement support services to approximately 200 departments.

The role holder will manage a defined area of spend and assist with the development and dissemination of best procurement practices across the University, delivering appropriate training to staff at all levels where necessary. You will use your initiative to identify priority categories and design, sell and implement solutions, which result in value for money being achieved and contribute to the University's overall Procurement strategy. Drawing on your experience in category management, tendering, whole life costing evaluation, contract formation and management, you will deliver best value framework agreements and assist non-procurement staff to obtain value for money. You will also be required to represent the University and communicate our requirements at meetings of external purchasing consortia and other groups.

The successful applicant will have a commercial mind set coupled with extensive work experience in procurement, including responsibility for successfully implementing a category management approach, supplier relationship management initiatives', tendering and supply chain management, experience in managing and developing a team of professional procurement staff. You are likely to be fully CIPS qualified, with evidence of CPD (or equivalent) and have excellent interpersonal, influencing, presentation and communication skills ¿ both verbal and written.

Strong analytical skills are essential and you must be self-motivated and able to prioritise and work to tight deadlines. You will ideally have an area of expertise aligned to one of the University's major category expenditure areas. Experience of public or utility sector procurement and a devolved budget operation would be an advantage, as would a good understanding of EU Procurement Directives and other best practice sourcing processes.
