Scientific Software Developer

Institute of Cancer Research

We are establishing a Software Support Team which will facilitate the development of bespoke scientific software and solutions across the ICR. We are seeking a Scientific Software Developer, ideally from a research background.

You will be expected to work on one or two projects at a time as well as provide support and maintenance for past projects. While not essential, experience of working in a research environment would be advantageous.

You will have a good first degree or Masters (or equivalent) or a PhD (or equivalent) in computer science, software engineering, informatics, physics, mathematics, biology or a closely related field.

You will use and promote modern software development practices and contribute to our training portfolio.

You will apply your experience in developing research applications. Experience of creating web interfaces to drive workflows or HPC applications would be an advantage. Experience of software development under Linux or Mac is essential and development under Windows is advantageous. Knowledge of all or some of the following: C/C++, Perl, Python, Java, R, git, bash is essential.

You will have a proven track record of delivering scientific software, a professional approach, an analytical, logical and quick learning mind, a ‘can do’ attitude and be able to communicate clearly and effectively with fellow developers and scientists alike.

You will be part of a growing scientific computing team but also be expected to work independently and within a project framework. You will report to the Scientific Software Lead who will manage the portfolio of projects and provide general guidance and support.

The post is for two years in the first instance. The post will be based in Sutton and will also be required to work regularly at the ICR’s Chelsea site.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Igor.Kozin@icr.ac.uk.
