Postdoctoral Researcher in Design & Engineering

Bournemouth University - Faculty of Science and Technology

At BU our vision is to create a stimulating, challenging and rewarding University experience, through sharing a unique fusion of education, research and professional practice and inspiring our students and staff to enrich the world. Our highly skilled and creative workforce is comprised of individuals drawn from a broad cross section of the globe, and who reflect a variety of backgrounds, talents, perspectives and experiences to build our global learning community.

The Faculty of Science and Technology is central to this vision. As a Postdoctoral Researcher within the Department of Design and Engineering, you will work in a dynamic environment which has seen the rapid growth of engineering education and research since 2012. The Faculty of Science and Technology is seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to undertake a significant role in the delivery of high-quality outputs for the Research Excellence Framework and contribute to the writing of applications for prestigious research funding. Based in the Department of Design and Engineering, this is an opportunity for a competent researcher to undertake work to join our research time and collaborate with us in the area of engineering.

You will be expected to engage with research activities which will contribute to the Department’s REF (Research Excellence Framework) 2021 submission to UoA (Unit of Assessment) 12 (Engineering).  The Department has a vibrant research community of academics, PDRAs and postgraduate researchers with a proven track record of internationally excellent (REF 2014) applied research in a number of areas such as medical engineering, nano coating, corrosion, clean energy technologies and tribology.   You will plan, develop and engage in the high-quality research projects underway by embedding your research expertise into the life of the Faculty. You will review our body of research to identify opportunities for academic publishing, the dissemination of research findings, and future research funding. You will then work with staff in the Department to produce high-quality peer reviewed outputs for publication and support the development and submission of external research funding proposals. You will undertake internal peer review of draft outputs for academic colleagues and provide input and advice for publications. You will contribute to Bournemouth University’s reputation as a leading centre for interdisciplinary research.

You will have demonstrable research experience in experimental and simulation techniques and need to be self-motivated and able to work using your own initiative as well as in a team. You will need highly developed communication skills and be able to work under pressure.

The post is available on a 24-month fixed term contract basis.
