Senior Researcher in Quantum Technology

Applications are invited for a Senior Researcher in Quantum Technology in the Ultrafast Quantum Optics Group (UFQO) led by Professor Ian Walmsley. The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 5 years.

This project will focus on developing a scalable platform for quantum photonics and investigation its applications. The Photonics sub-group is developing quantum light sources, on-chip photonic circuits and advanced photodetection, moving towards a stable and compact integrated architecture for quantum optics.

The successful candidate will conduct research in support of the objectives of this team, and also provide advice and guidance to less experienced members of the research group, including postdocs, research assistants, technicians and DPhil and project students. They will also work on their own grant funded research project that will fit within the wider research group. Tasks will include developing, establishing and pursuing analytical protocols and techniques to support research, writing research articles, adapting scientific techniques, generating funds through successful grant applications, liaising with funding bodies and external stakeholders and membership of departmental committees. The postholder will have the opportunity to teach.

Applicants should possess a doctorate in physics or a related field and ideally a strong background in Quantum Optics, Quantum Information Science or Quantum Technologies. Candidates are expected to demonstrate contribution of ideas for new research projects and generation of research income whilst working within established research programmes.
