Development and External Relations Manager

City & Guilds of London Art School

City & Guilds of London Art School is an independent ‘not for profit’ institution, providing an important alternative to other models of Art education in the UK at Postgraduate, Undergraduate and Foundation levels. Founded in 1879, the Art School has a distinguished history of fostering excellence in its specialist subjects that today encompass contemporary Fine Art, Historic Carving and Conservation of cultural objects. It does this in part by providing students with exceptional studio facilities and high levels of contact time with artist tutors and active professionals. For further information please visit

The Art School is looking to appoint a Development and External Relations Manager, reporting to the Vice Principal.  In recent years, the Art School has been through a highly successful expansion of its fundraising activity, with philanthropic support towards funding bursaries and projects increasing steadily from an expanding donor base. This has included full funding for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of a capital masterplan for the Art School’s Kennington site, now successfully concluded. Phase 3, the refurbishment and partial redevelopment of the Victorian studio buildings, is now at planning stage.

The post-holder will work closely with the Development Committee, senior management team and trustees to take philanthropic income generation to the next level by, inter alia, initiating capital fundraising for Phase 3, establishing subject related revenue and project funding support, whilst also maintaining the upward trajectory of bursary funding.  This is an exciting time to join the Art School, and requires a self-motivated, adaptable and resilient individual with strong inter-personal skills to make a difference. Candidates will have at least three years’ varied experience of fundraising, including event management, ideally in the cultural or higher education sectors. Experience of alumni relations is desirable. While this is a full-time post, the Art School is willing to discuss part-time options.

Submission deadline: Monday 8 January 2018
