Paediatric Research Nurse in The Diabetes and Inflammation Laboratory

Grade 6: £28,098 - £33,518 with a discretionary range to £36,613 p.a.

Applications are invited for a Paediatric Research Nurse to join the Diabetes and Inflammation Laboratory at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics. We are seeking a motivated individual with an interest in diabetes and/or autoimmune disease, to work in our multidisciplinary team to assist in the recruitment, education and monitoring of patients entering and currently participating in clinical trials in type 1 diabetes. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in translational research.

The Diabetes and Inflammation Laboratory (DIL) aims to treat and prevent the causes of the common autoimmune disease, type 1 diabetes (T1D), in which 50% of cases are diagnosed under age 18 years and consequently run the highest risk of serious complications. This unmet global clinical need requires an understanding of the underlying mechanisms of disease.

Your main responsibilities will be obtaining informed consent, administration of study medicines as required by the study protocol, collection of samples and the processing of study documentation. It is essential that you are a registered nurse, with experience working with children and a proven track record of being able to collect blood from infants and older children. You will have excellent communication skills. You should be highly organised and able to keep accurate and comprehensive records.

To succeed in this role, you will require an enthusiasm for learning, the ability to work to procedures and protocols and a flexible approach to work including the willingness to visit patients in the community.

Previous experience of training others, clinical research experience, post-registration degree qualification, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training, community/primary care experience would be desirable but not essential.

The position will be available until 30 September 2020, in the first instance, and is funded by Wellcome.
