There is scope to be flexible about the number of hours the academic is asked to commit to.

About the Scottish Parliament’s Fellowship scheme

The purpose of the Scottish Parliament is to hold the Scottish Government to account, scrutinise legislation and represent the people of Scotland by debating issues of national importance.

The Academic Fellowship Scheme, which is managed and hosted by the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe), enables academics to work on projects with the Parliament in support of this purpose.

Fellowship in International Trade

The Fellow involved in this piece of work will work with researchers in the Information Centre with analysis and briefing to help MSPs understand some key aspects of trade agreements:

  • Helping MSPs understand how the WTO works, and how bilateral and multilateral trade deals are negotiated and ratified.
  • Understanding the UK’s opportunities for international trade deals and how they will be negotiated following the UK’s departure from the EU
  • Understanding the potential implications for Scotland from the UK’s trade deals
  • Understanding how the UK’s intergovernmental structures might work during the negotiation of international trade deals.
