School of Archaeology and Ancient History

College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities

Associate Professor - Grade 9 Salary - £50,618 to £56,950 per annum

Permanent contract

As part of its Centenary investment programme, the University is seeking to appoint two highly motivated individuals to senior posts in archaeology, at Professor or Associate Professor level. Both will play a central role in taking the School of Archaeology and Ancient History forward into the 2020s and beyond.

The School is a top-5 unit (REF2014) and is seeking to recruit established or rising stars to join its collegial and dynamic staff base. In both the Professor and Associate Professor roles, you will undertake research of a world-leading standard, attract research funding and research students, and contribute to teaching and administration.

In the Associate Professor role, you will take a leadership role in developing an area of teaching and research, along with other administration activities, that will develop and enhance the School’s reputation, both nationally and internationally. The sub-field for this post is open within archaeology, though there is an expectation that the successful candidate will help develop a new area or significantly enhance an area already covered by the School, with a slight preference for an area of archaeological science or heritage.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Professor David Mattingly (both roles), Professor Colin Haselgrove (for the Professor role) or Dr Huw Barton (for the Associate Professor role).

The closing date for these posts is midnight on 8 February 2018.

We anticipate that interviews will take place on 8 and 9 March 2018.
