Centre Manager – UK Dementia Research Institute

The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) at Imperial is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the Institute Associate Director, Professor Paul Matthews, with all aspects of administration of the Institute.  This post will be ideal for a highly motivated person, interested in taking on a major challenge and in making a difference!

The UK DRI at Imperial is one of six national centres of excellence established recently at major UK universities that are intended to transform the diagnosis, treatment and care of people with dementias.  MRC and charity partners Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK have invested £250m in fulfilment of the ambition identified in the Prime Minister's 2020 Challenge on Dementia.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and motivated individual to take a leading role in the operational management of the UK DRI at Imperial. The postholder will be responsible for all financial management, pre and post-award grant administration, staffing (including senior academic recruitment), meeting and event organisation.  At the outset, the post holder will provide support to the Associate Director with regard to the construction and fit out of the laboratory and office facilities of the UK DRI which will be housed at the College’s White City Campus from 2019.  In addition, the post holder will take a leading role in developing operational processes for the UK DRI at Imperial which are in line with both UK DRI and College policies. Development of a communications strategy for the UK DRI, with support provided from other teams, also will be a key early challenge.

The role will be highly visible, with the Centre Manager acting as the first point of contact for all queries relating to the UK DRI at Imperial, for both internal staff (PIs and their researchers, core administrative functions, etc.), and external stakeholders particularly the central staff of the UK DRI, and the founding partners. 

The right candidate will be a highly motivated individual who is proactive in their approach to problem solving, and can take ownership of all aspects of the operational management of the UK DRI at Imperial.  They will have exceptional organisational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities to meet, often short, deadlines. The ability to quickly establish strong working relationships with staff at all levels and to provide an outstanding customer service to stakeholders of the UK DRI is imperative.  Demonstrable success in a similar post is essential, as is experience of budget management.  A PhD in a related discipline is also essential.

The contract is fixed term to 31 August 2022 in the first instance.  Extensions to the contract will be subject to successful renewal of the UK DRI at Imperial following a five-year review.
