The Faculty of Business and Law is located in our award-winning building located in the centre of Manchester. We have supported industry and commerce in the city since 1889; today we offer undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, together with professional qualifications, many recognised by industry associations. In February 2016, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accredited the Business School, which is a recognised global standard for excellence in management education.

Home to 8000 students, the Faculty is one of the largest and most popular in the UK. Research firmly underpins the curriculum and our strong external focus ensures that the research we do is transferable and supports industry and commerce locally, nationally and internationally.

The department of People and Performance is a newly formed research led academic department at Manchester Metropolitan University. The department contains two established research units, The Centre for People and Performance and The Sylvia Pankhurst Gender Research Centre. The department has a broad research theme around the notion of decent work and productivity.

The department offers a range of courses covering undergraduate, postgraduate and commercial programmes; our emphasis is on flexibility, innovation, employability skills and the ability to think critically.

We have excellent relations with a range of academic research partners, generate impactful consultancy and contract research, and deliver a range of innovative executive programmes.


We are looking for academics that will lead and teach on our CIPD accredited programmes in the area of HRM and\or International HRM. There is an expectation that you will have some experience of online and blended learning, as this is a key development area in the department. Commitment to and engagement with the CIPD professional body forms part of the role.

There is also an expectation that you will publish research in the area of HRM and contribute to the aims of our research centres.

Ideal Candidate

You will need to have a PhD in a relevant field, evidence of high quality research that is impactful and published in peer-reviewed journals. Significant experience of teaching on CIPD accredited HRM programmes and a commitment to providing a high quality student experience. Key areas of expertise include:

  • Ability to contribute to the enhancement, development and leadership of the department’s provision of HRM programmes.
  • Excellent teaching experience at all levels, particularly on postgraduate programmes.
  • Ability to teach on programmes delivered internationally.
  • Experience of online and\or blended learning.
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate students.
  • Publication profile of national and international standing.
  • Experience in disseminating knowledge arising from research or knowledge exchange to various audiences and stakeholders.
  • A PhD in an area relevant to the post.
