We are looking for a radiation protection specialist with a strong scientific background to join our team of health and safety professionals. The radiation protection specialist is responsible for development, implementation and review of the radiation protection management system that ensures the University maintains its compliance with the regulations.

The main function of the role is to provide professional radiation protection support to a wide range of research streams, and to promote continuous improvement of measures to reduce risk and exposure. This will include development and implementation of the radiation protection management system, liaison with the external RPA/RWA, management of permits for radioactive waste, advice on best available techniques for management and disposal of waste, coordination of dosimetry, development and delivery of training, undertaking audits and liaison with regulatory authorities. 

As a radiation protection specialist, the role will contribute to the portfolio of the scientific safety team and will provide a key service to the university’s research activities.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have a proven track record of radiation protection in the higher education and/or research sectors. Applications from individuals working towards RPA/RWA accreditation will also be considered. A minimum of NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent) is essential, with the Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health being a distinct advantage.
