About the role:

We’re seeking to appoint an experienced professional to provide project management support and oversight for colleagues engaged in funded research projects. Working across all our sites, you'll provide guidance to professional and academic colleagues on the administration and management of grants and contracts, primarily for research. This will be achieved through advice, assistance and training across our University community on issues associated with project set up, funding body compliance, financial monitoring and preparation of grant claims and reports to funders.

You’ll also contribute to the achievement of our Strategic Plan, in particular in support of our corporate goals to grow significantly the levels of external income generated by our research. This role is part of the Post-Award and Commercialisation Team within our Research and Innovation Development Office.

With a degree or relevant professional qualification at degree level, you’ll have project management experience including financial management and reporting, as well as experience of working within complex situations with competing stakeholders and deadlines. You’ll have knowledge of the requirements of external funders, particularly the major research councils, EU funding bodies and large charities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential as is a commitment to delivering excellent customer service in a busy environment.

You'll be able to balance demand and delivery requirements with limited resources and have substantial recent experience of working in a similar or transferable role in Post Award administration, including UK and Foreign Currency awards. You'll be able to show evidence of prioritising workloads to meet objectives, in addition to showing evidence of identifying gaps on systems and processes, and leading the delivery of solutions. Experience of working in a Higher Education or research environment is essential and you'll be a competent user of Research Fish, Joint Electronic Submissions and/or the Research Participant Portal.
