An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic, dynamic and well-qualified researcher(s) to work on an EPSRC funded project called ‘Socio-Techno-Economic Design of Energy Systems driven by Community Needs’.  We are seeking to appoint a full time (or two part-time) Research Associate(s) in the department of Business Management,  though the successful candidate(s) will also have the option of working within the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society .  As part of a team spanning the university, the role will focus on understanding energy needs across a range of community and national settings.  The project encompasses Orkney, Malaysia and India.

The post holder is required to:

  • Conduct a Systematic Review to establish a comprehensive and structured understanding of heating and cooling behaviours/practices across home, work, transport and social/entertainment spaces (Applications from researchers who have expertise in examining actions from both a behavioural and a practice perspective are particularly welcome).
  • Support the conceptualisation and design of qualitative research methodologies
  • Undertake household and community based qualitative research examining energy use including:  i) How notions of comfort are negotiated between stakeholders in different spaces and ii) How non-heating based methods influence perceptions of temperate and comfort.
  • Represent the outputs of the systematic review and qualitative research using a systems-based method called Cognitive Work Analysis (Applications from researchers with a background in Human Factors would also be welcome).

The post is available for 9 months.

You should have a PhD or Masters by Research in a relevant discipline.  These include Sociology, Psychology, Human Factors, End-User Energy Demand or similar related fields.
