The Role

The School wish to strengthen its position with this appointment. The main purpose of this role is to undertake front line delivery of building surveying modules within the Department of Construction and Surveying at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, ensuring they are relevant to the marketplace, up-to-date and delivered to the highest standard consistent with the School’s reputation. The appointee will be expected to support the Department/ School and work as part of the course teams to provide practice-focused specialist input in core subjects particularly construction technology, building services, sustainable and renewable building technologies, Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), design and specification, building inspections and condition surveys,  building pathology and defects rectification,  legislative requirements (specifically in relation to building regulations, building control and planning permissions) site investigations, geotechnical engineering and traffic.

The Person

The applicant will ideally come with a research degree (PhD) and a suitable record of quality publications in a related field, and understanding of current developments in built environment and surveying education as well as practice. Membership of related professional institutions; such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or equivalent and working towards or have reached Chartered Builder or Surveyor status or equivalent. Some experience of teaching at degree level would also prove highly beneficial.

Candidate should demonstrate capability to deliver a varied teaching load, undertake project supervision and research in one or more of the built environment and construction related subject areas. He/ She will be expected to work towards developing national reputation in the field of expertise, and participate in residential trips, and opportunities exist to diversify your teaching interests into other sub disciplines within CI.

The Faculty

The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing was designed to enable interdisciplinary study, research and projects – and provide hands-on, ‘real-world’ experiences for its students. More than 400 academics, support staff, researchers and research students work together alongside undergraduate and postgraduate students as one academic community.

Thanks to the Faculty’s success in the national Research Excellence Framework (REF), it will gain greater recognition for its cutting-edge research and continue to help change the world for the better.

The Faculty runs a comprehensive programme of outreach activities to take science, engineering and computing out into the community.

Using the brand new ‘labs in lorries’, it takes advanced equipment into schools and colleges across the Southeast, including programmable robots, forensic science equipment and an advanced patient simulator that looks and talks like a person. These facilities are available in a specialist outreach centre that opened in September 2016 and aim to engage and inspire the next generation of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) professionals.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate that they meet the Kingston University standards in learning and teaching, and research.  If new to teaching, by the end of the probation period, you must achieve the relevant level of UKPSF recognition, through participation in Kingston University’s accredited Introduction to Learning and Teaching (ILT) staff development programme.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

This is a fixed term post for 2 years.
