Laboratory Technician

Oxford Brookes University - Bioinnovation Hub

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is looking to fill the vacancy of Bioinnovation Hub (BiH) laboratory technician. The successful candidate will join our small friendly team of highly skilled dedicated technicians and will be involved in the day-to-day running of the BiH laboratories which is home to several research groups and small biotechnology companies; he/she will also support undergraduate students working in the labs and support the management of the university's proprietary antibody stores.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • To provide technical support and an overall laboratory environment that is working to 'good laboratory practice' for the research groups and companies within the Bioinnovation Hub.
  • To assist the Bioinnovation Hub manager with induction processes and ongoing training for staff, students and visitors, including health and safety.
  • To have oversight for the storage and disposal of chemicals and other waste materials.
  • To monitor and maintain the tissue culture facility, cold rooms and equipment room to a high standard.
  • To take responsibility for the operation and maintenance of communal equipment.
  • To monitor and order stocks of specialised reagents, materials and equipment.
  • To assist the Bioinnovation Hub manager in managing the university proprietary antibody catalogue including receiving and processing orders, and arranging shipment and deliveries.
  • To provide technical support and assist with supervision of project students working within the Bioinnovation Hub.
  • To provide common solutions and reagents for researchers such as PBS, culture media and agar plates for E. coli work and where feasible provide technical expertise in protein production and purification (E. coli based), cell culture and/or molecular biology.
  • To work with other members of the team to ensure uninterrupted technical support for Bioinnovation Hub activities.
