Postdoctoral Fellow in Statistics

Applications are invited for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Statistics Group in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. This opportunity would suit those graduated with a PhD in statistics, who are aiming for a career in an academic environment.

We invite applications from candidates in any area of statistics, but particularly encourage candidates with research interests that align with current Department and University of Otago research. Research strengths include ecological and environmental statistics, stochastic modelling, point processes, Bayesian inference, hidden Markov models, scoring rules, model-averaging, over-dispersion, clinical trials, epidemiological methods, quantitative genetics, and statistical genetics.

The Role

The position will be fully mentored, ensuring development of both research and teaching capability. The successful candidate will be supported to consolidate and develop research in the area of their PhD, and to develop new areas of research in collaboration with one or more of the members of the Statistics Group. While research is the main focus of the Fellowship, the position will also ensure the successful candidate develops skills in teaching.

Skills and experience

  • PhD in Statistics or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Evidence of research productivity.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 24 months. We welcome international candidates and provide financial assistance for relocation and visa applications (commensurate with a fixed-term position).
