Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to work on a short-term industry-sponsored project to design high-power laser diodes. This is an on-going project, scheduled to end on 31 August 2018.

The successful applicant will be expected to perform advanced physics-hased simulations of high-power diode lasers and optimise their designs to achieve high power conversion efficiency and stable beam quality in the presence of optical feedback. The person appointed will be expected to take on significant project supervision responsibility and to interact with industrial partners.

Candidates must have PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Physics and a relevant publication track record in the simulation and design of optoelectronic devices. They must have verifiable competence in the theory and design of high-power laser diodes and must be proficient with relevant 2D and/or 3D software tools for: the simulation of the electrical, optical and thermal performance of laser diodes; and the simulation of optical systems using coherent ray tracing and/or Fourier optics algorithms. The person appointed will interact closely with industrial partners, so they must be able to function effectively as part of a highly dynamic research team.As the industrial sponsor is a foreign company, an international outlook and lab experience communicating in a foreign language will also be helpful.

This is a full time, fixed term post until 31 August 2018. Job share arrangements ca be considered for the position.
