About the Role

Macquarie University Faculty of Science and Engineering will embark on a new building programme including facilities for the Macquarie Analytical Facility (MQAF). In anticipation of this development, an exciting opportunity exists for two experienced analytical technicians to join the Department of Molecular Sciences responsible for delivering an analytical service to the department and wider community. The appointees will share responsibility for NMR, chromatography, UV-visible and infra-red spectroscopies, thermal analysis, elemental analysis, and molecular computation.

It is anticipated that applicants will already have expertise in one or more area and have the potential and willingness to establish expertise in others. The posts will be responsible to Professor Alison Rodger, the acting Director of the Macquarie Analytical Facility and head of the Department of Molecular Sciences.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position applicants must respond specifically to the selection criteria below:


  • A PhD degree and/or equivalent qualifications and experience in a relevant science discipline, in an area of molecular analytical science, preferably with both experimental sample preparation, instrumentation, and theory experience.
  • Knowledge of current analytical methods and principles in analysis.
  • Experience of maintaining instrumentation and training users.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation and principles including hazardous chemicals.
  • Project Management principles and practices.


  • Experience of having delivered contract research or analysis.
  • Experience of interacting with industrial collaborators.

Salary Package: From $90,330 - $97,937 (Hew 7), plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.
