Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry. The School of Sciences is committed to delivering Undergraduate and Postgraduate Biosciences courses at the highest levels and is looking to appoint an outstanding individual to deliver and actively develop our taught curriculum and to undertake Biochemistry research. The post will involve contributing to the development and delivery of innovative Biochemistry teaching on our undergraduate and developing postgraduate Biosciences programmes, including the provision of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects. Contribution to teaching across a number of disciplines, including Biology, Biotechnology, Forensic Science and Biomedical Science, will also be expected. You will have evidence of being able to deliver research outcomes that will contribute to the REF, either by evidence of independent research with the capability of attracting support or by engaging with one or more of the successful research areas that form part of the School’s research portfolio. These include research in the areas of: biodegradable plastics, cancer biology, cell trafficking, food biotechnology and novel antimicrobials. You will have a minimum of a good honours degree and doctorate in Biochemistry, or an area related to the Biosciences. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential attributes.

The Department of Biology, Chemistry and Forensic Science is an active and expanding area within the University. There are extensive laboratory facilities available for biosciences and as part of the University’s on-going investment in science and technology, the Faculty’s research and teaching laboratory activity has recently relocated into a new £25 million laboratory building. This houses state-of-the art teaching and research facilities to support teaching across the School of Sciences.
