Research Governance Specialist

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Research Governance Specialist, working within the research support team, facilitating our commitment to exceptional clinical learning, strong social engagement and world class research. You will work predominately to support the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences and the Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry (PU PSMD) which will involve spending a proportion of working time in the Faculties. The research spans from laboratory-based biomedical research in the brand new Derriford Research Facility to multi-site clinical trials managed by the Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit.

The Faculty of Health and Human Sciences consists of three Schools: Psychology, Health Professions and Nursing and Midwifery. PUPSMD consists of three Schools: Medicine, Dentistry and the School of Biomedical and Healthcare Sciences.  Both Faculties enjoy wide collaborations across the University providing a rich multi-disciplinary and dynamic academic environment involving post graduate and academic research.

We are looking for an experienced Research Governance Officer who can lead the delivery and continuous development of an effective and flexible research governance service which adheres to the necessary current regulations and standards. You will not only have a current and detailed understanding of UK and EU standards but will be able to disseminate these into appropriate processes, procedures and associated documentation that underpin the research governance operation of the Faculty. You will be expected to provide excellent customer service and detailed specialist advice and guidance, whether it be with students or staff, to facilitate developing research proposals, and grant applications. All activities will be undertaken in compliance with the University’s Safety Policy, and University’s commitment to Equality and Diversity for staff, students and partners.

The post will provide an opportunity to work with internal and external customers, partners and stakeholders on research governance activities, policies and procedures. This will include working with NHS partners to facilitate access to Good Clinical Practice training for researchers working on studies with human participants.

You must have a good knowledge of all stages in the research cycle from preparing proposals to data storage and archiving, preferably within an academic environment. Detailed knowledge of NHS research governance and the regulatory requirements governing the conduct of clinical trials in the UK is essential, along with a good understanding of NHS research infrastructure and funding. You will write fluently, have excellent oral communication skills, be highly organised, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and be able to prioritise your workload.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per on a permanent basis, to start as soon as possible.
