Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties

You will be join the team at an exciting time as we strive to deliver the University's aim, to transform lives locally and globally. Your role will be to raise funds for University projects, by cultivating and soliciting gifts from a portfolio of key potential donors in order to meet an agreed fundraising targets.

Key duties include:

  • Key responsibility for raising philanthropic revenue by cultivating and soliciting potential and existing donors, for significant regular and single gifts.
  • To assist in identifying new potential major donors, to maintain contact, and within an appropriate timeframe, to directly or indirectly secure their financial support.
  • To manage a personal portfolio of potential donors (initially in the UK), nurture strong relationships with new and existing donors, implement donor-specific strategies for cultivation, and negotiate, secure and close philanthropic gifts. To initiate a stewardship strategy for donors and coordinate with internal constituencies, where necessary, in the development of this stewardship strategy.

Summary of Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience (in soliciting major gifts or in a sales orientated financial services role or in a business development role.

Desirable

  • Fundraising experience.

Work Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable track record in face to face solicitations.
  • Previous experience in managing prospects and key relationships both internally and externally.

Desirable

  • Experience in Higher Education fundraising.

Personal Qualities and abilities

Essential

  • Commitment to fundraising and a willingness to take the lead in asking for financial support.
  • Excellent formal and informal oral communication skills: face-to-face; on the telephone; and in formal presentations.
  • Excellent written and presentation skills, to prepare and present high impact proposals and to correspond professionally.
  • Highly enthusiastic, motivated, and goal-directed.

Desirable

  • Confidence to represent the University with authority to senior-level, influential and wealthy individuals.

The Directorate has grow over the last 24 months to enable it to work more effectively together and provide an excellent customer experience across the student life cycle.
