Academic Appointment in Biblical Studies (Old Testament)

Nazarene Theological College invites applications for a post in Biblical Studies (Old Testament) effective July 1st, 2018. The appointment will initially be for a one year probationary period, with the expectation of a permanent rolling contract to take effect subsequently.  The closing date for applications is March 1st, 2018.

The successful candidate will be part of the Biblical Studies subject area and join a collegial team of research active core faculty; will hold a PhD degree in a cognate area and give evidence of having an active research profile; will have prior teaching experience; and will be able to take on a range of teaching and supervisory responsibilities, including undergraduate teaching (cross-disciplinary), MA teaching, and PhD supervision. The successful candidate will have some experience in pastoral care/ministry, and will be in sympathy with the Wesleyan tradition. We particularly encourage applicants from denominations in the Wesleyan Holiness tradition. Skills in administration and/or eLearning platforms will be an advantage.  Cross-disciplinary experiences will be an advantage. 

The salary range is £24,000 - £30,700 (pro rata for part time), dependent on experience and qualifications. The intention is to offer a full-time post, but consideration may be given to a part-time appointment. The preferred start date for the post is July 2018, but a request for a later start would be considered.

Main Responsibilities of the Post

  1. Being part of the development of the Biblical Studies programme area across all levels of learning within the broader subject area of Biblical Studies, with a preferred focus in Old Testament.
  2. Undergraduate and MA Teaching (primarily in Biblical Studies, but beyond this where possible)
  3. Supervision of doctoral students (in Biblical Studies/Old Testament)
  4. Maintaining an active research and publishing profile
  5. Pastoral care and formation of students
  6. Administration: Participate in academic committees as required
