RF Electronic Hardware Design Engineer (KTP Associate)

Duration of Contract: FTC for 24 months

Full-time position working 37 hours per week (1.0 FTE) 

An exciting opportunity has become available for a qualified graduate to develop and embed radio frequency (RF) and high speed digital signal analysis techniques to produce a first to market standalone hand held RF spectrum analyser. This position is part of an Innovate UK KTP project in collaboration with Thurlby Thandar Instruments Limited (TTi) and has a dedicated training budget tailored towards the successful applicant’s development.

The successful candidate must possess:

  • As a minimum a BEng in Electronic Engineering or equivalent related discipline, this can include expectation of attainment within 2 months of interview.
  • General experience of electronic hardware design and Analogue/ RF hardware design in particular.
  • Experience of managing research projects in a related area.
  • Experience with PCB design and layout.

 Essential skills we require as a minimum:

  • Ability to operate in a dynamic business environment
  • To work co-collaboratively with the other Associate
  • Good verbal and written communication/presentations skills.
  • Good time-management and accuracy in preparing and presenting information.
  • Ability to reason in a logical way, in both analysis of problem and design of solution(s).
  • Ability to work both in a team but also individually when required.
  • Independent, critical thinker.
  • Ability to write professional technical reports.

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • High level project requirements analysis.
  • Review of project sub-systems.
  • Outline system design.
  • System component development.
  • Initial prototype productions.
  • Final prototype production.
  • Final prototype evaluation, pilot production, sales.
  • Project embedding, product marketing and commercial exposure

You will be able to interpret and clearly articulate technical and complex information.  The successful candidate will be expected to present to a wide ranging audience including senior stakeholders.  You will be proactive, able to influence others and build rapport quickly, developing long term relationships.  You will enjoy responsibility, solving unexpected problems and challenging the status quo.

The KTP Associate appointment is a fixed term partnership between the University of Hertfordshire and Thurlby Thandar Instruments Limited (TTi).  The appointee will be employed by the University of Hertfordshire on a 24 month contract and will be based in Huntingdon, Cambridge with work being undertaken in both Huntingdon and Hatfield on a regular basis.
