The School of Biological & Chemical Sciences (SBCS) is one of the largest schools in Queen Mary University of London. The School has approximately 1800 undergraduate students and is one of five Schools in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The SBCS is divided into four departments: Chemistry & Biochemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology, Organismal Biology and Psychology. The School has c95 academic employees, 32 administrative staff and 26 technicians.

We are seeking to recruit a candidate who has administrative experience of working in a busy office environment within Higher Education or a similar environment.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide high-level, professional and comprehensive administrative support to the Teaching Services Administration team within SBCS.
  • Act as a first point of contact for the School responding professionally and courteously to queries in person, by email and by phone.
  • Create a welcoming and friendly environment and upholding the reputation of the School at all times.
  • Provide an excellent standard of customer care and convey a helpful, positive image to all those who deal with or work within the School.

You will also be responsible for the administration associated with demonstrator payments and bought in teaching, act as Secretary to the School’s Safety Committee, administer the placement programme for BSc Biochemistry with a year in Industry/Research and assist with the administration of undergraduate research projects, the collation and editing of examination papers, the administration associated with marks processing and with the preparation of Quality Assurance paperwork.

The post-holder must have:

  • Strong customer focus and a passion for providing exceptional customer service.
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to deal with staff at all levels, and a customer focused, “can do” attitude.
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office software (including advanced Excel skills, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Access).
  • An organised, methodical approach and excellent attention to detail.

This is a permanent, part time post for 21 hours per week. The salary will be in the range of £26,717 - £32,956 per annum pro rata, inclusive of London Allowance.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
