Research Associate in segmentation and external control of mammalian cells

University of Bristol - Department of Engineering Mathematics - School of Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Engineering Maths

A Research Associate position is available at the Department of Engineering Mathematics, with experimental activities taking place at the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (University of Bristol). The research will be developed within BriSynBio, a £13.5M BBSRC/EPSRC-funded Synthetic Biology Research Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a challenging mammalian Synthetic Biology project joining a highly interdisciplinary team of mathematicians, engineers, biologists and biochemists.

The work-plan requires a high level of integration between in-silico and wet-lab experiments, under the supervision of Dr. Lucia Marucci (Engineering Mathematics).

You will develop and implement segmentation and control algorithms for living mammalian cells; use/develop deep-learning algorithms for image analysis; design and fabricate microfluidic devices for mammalian cell culture and imaging; analyse data.

The successful applicant should have an excellent background in engineering/computer science/mathematics and, possibly, microfluidics. Applicants will possess a relevant PhD and be able to integrate computational methods and experimental work for external control of stem cells using microfluidics.

This post is offered on a full time, open-ended contract with funding for up to 16 months.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place in early February 2018.
