Research and Innovation at Falmouth University is built on the principle of Open Innovation – the idea that the grand challenges of our age can be addressed most effectively when tackled collaboratively, across disciplinary boundaries. Researchers at Falmouth University apply ideas and methodologies derived from the Creative Industries to tackle real-world challenges.

Falmouth University has ten Research and Innovation Programmes, each of which brings together different combinations of challenge, methodology and discipline: (1) Creative Industries Futures, (2) Digital Creativity, (3) Digital Entrepreneurship and Financial Innovation, (4) Design for Mental Health, (5) Inequality and Storytelling, (6) Innovation in Rural Environments, (7) Metamakers, (8) Multigenerational Living and Learning, (9) Technology-Enabled Health and Wellbeing, and (10) Telematics (see falmouth.ac.uk/research for details on each programme).

In order to grow our R&I programmes, we are now recruiting five new Research Fellows. Applicants need not necessarily have expertise in a particular creative discipline, though this would be of benefit. We are particularly interested in applications from social scientists, software developers, technology specialists, sociologists, psychologists, health or mental health specialists, or environment specialists, interested and able to work with our existing staff expertise in the creative industries.

Post holders will provide energetic support for research and innovation across the university, leading and contributing to individual and collaborative projects and activities within at least two of Falmouth’s ten R&I programmes: S/he will develop and apply a wide range of knowledge, experience and skills to contribute to the University’s objectives and targets, identifying opportunities, starting new initiatives, applying for funding, liaising with partners and stakeholders, disseminating findings, organising events, and supporting existing and emerging projects within their programmes.
