Salary (Grade): R1 £34,714 including London Weighting

The successful candidate will work within the Institute of Energy Futures at Brunel University London and the RCUK Centre for Sustainable Energy Use in Food Chains (CSEF,

CSEF undertakes research in a number of areas related to energy efficiency and demand reduction across all stages of the food chain and more widely in the industrial sector of the economy. The group is currently engaged in a number of externally funded projects focussing on, thermal energy recovery and conversion, including power generation, energy management of large industrial facilities, development of new innovative technologies and processes for heating, cooling, refrigeration, drying, energy and process modelling and optimisation. The projects are funded by RCUK, EU H2020, Innovate UK and Industry

The appointee will contribute to existing and new projects, business development activities and the promotion of the work of the Centre nationally and internationally.

The successful candidate is expected to have:

  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant area of engineering, science or technology.
  • Good knowledge and appreciation of energy systems and good grounding in thermofluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer and heating and cooling technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: i) Energy system modelling using modelling software such as: TRNSYS, ASPEN, Energy Plus and Computational Fluid Dynamics; ii) Energy and environmental impact modelling using time series models such as UKTM; iii) advanced instrumentation, design of test rigs and experimentation; iv) innovative food processing technologies.
  • Good team-working and interpersonal skills
