Director of the National Innovation Centre for Data & Professor of Practice - G809

Newcastle University

Closing date: 18 February 2018

Newcastle University is seeking to appoint a Director of the National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD) and Professor of Practice. NICD is a £30m centre, based on Science Central in Newcastle upon Tyne, which was formed to help the UK capitalise on the data opportunity and grow the economy. The centre links leading academic talent in universities with industry and the public sector to deliver data analytics skills into the workforce of UK organisations, enabling them to create value from their data.

The successful applicant will play a key role in creating and developing the NICD organisation, shaping the culture and creating a successful innovation centre which will have a material impact on addressing the data skills gap and so directly benefiting the UK economy. This success depends on excellent leadership, and an ability to work effectively and credibly with industry, academia and government alike.

Through NICD the successful applicant will also act as a champion for innovation across Newcastle University – promoting and nurturing the development of innovation throughout the taught curricular and ensuring that NICD, as a pathway to impact, is widely disseminated and accessible to all interested parties across the academic and research base.

For a confidential discussion about this role, please contact Professor Phillip Wright, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering and / or Professor Paul Watson, Director of the Digital Institute & Professor of Computer Science and / or Barry Hodgson, Deputy Director of NICD.
