Lecturer in Engineering Alloys and Metallurgy

Imperial College London - Department of Materials, Faculty of Engineering

Campus: South Kensington and White City

The Department of Materials at Imperial College London is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (roughly equivalent to Assistant Professor in the USA) in Engineering Alloys and Metallurgy. This is a lively, supportive, collaborative and friendly theme within the Department. The appointee will undertake the development of research programmes and teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The Materials Department at Imperial is recognised as world-leading, and includes internationally acknowledged research activity in metals and alloys. Lecturers are expected to seek and obtain external research funding, attract and supervise high-quality PhD students and post-doctoral research staff, publish papers in refereed journals, disseminate research findings at international conferences and contribute to the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes. A contribution to the administration of the Department’s research and teaching programmes is also expected. The appointee will be expected to interact with scientists and engineers from other departments at Imperial College, as well as develop collaborations nationally and internationally with academics and industry.

We invite applications from exceptional candidates with research interests in any area of Engineering Alloys and Metallurgy, but preference may be given to those with research expertise which is complementary to existing strengths within the Engineering Alloys Theme (http://www.imperial.ac.uk/engineeringalloys). Applications from those who bring multidisciplinary approaches, recognising the importance of integration of experiment, characterisation, theory and modelling, and with interests in relating processing and microstructure through to alloy behaviour and performance, are strongly encouraged.

Applicants should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Materials Science and Engineering, or a related discipline, and have (or have demonstrated their potential to have) an international standing, an outstanding publication record, an established record of raising research funding, experience in managing and delivering research projects, and in teaching and supervision.

The post is permanent and available immediately.

The details of the departmental research activities may be found at http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/materials.
