Research Associate - LiNa Energy - New sodium ion battery technology with wide application

Lancaster University - Engineering

LiNa Energy is an early stage start-up company. Its founding directors have a very strong technical background and have all played key roles in successful UK start-up companies. The role will focus on developing a novel metal-supported sodium ion cell. This will include the design, fabrication and testing of demonstration cells using standard testing protocols, in a bespoke test rig to be designed by the post holder.

The successful applicant will join a small research team, led by Dr. Richard Dawson and members of the LiNa Energy technical team. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a hard-working, proactive and entrepreneurial individual.  We are looking for a highly skilled research scientist with a background in materials development, electrochemistry and battery testing.  Ideally, following the advertised post the successful candidate would continue to work for LiNa Energy in a prominent technical role within this extremely exciting new company.

Lancaster is a top-10 university in the UK and in the top-125 in the World.  Engineering at Lancaster is consistently in the top-5 with particularly high rankings for student satisfaction.  The department has grown significantly in recent years to twice its size.  In 2015 we moved to a brand new purpose-built building. The position is available for an initial 3 months followed by an agreed further 12 months subject to the first technical milestone being achieved.

The University is a member of the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender inequality in higher education and research.
