Research Associate: Security and Safety Stream in the PETRAS IoT Research Hub – Cybersecurity of the IoT

Salary range: £36,800 to £44,200 per annum*

The PETRAS Internet of Things Research Hub – Cybersecurity of the IoT is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher for its thematic research stream Safety and Security for IoT environments. The Hub comprises nine leading UK universities and over 100 partners from industry and the public sector, delivering a unique and exciting research programme on critical issues in privacy, ethics, trust, reliability, acceptability, and security for the Internet of Things.

This post offers a unique opportunity to conduct research on the Safety and Security challenges in the Internet of Things, with access to a wide pool of academic, industrial, and governmental stakeholders and research and development “in the wild”. The successful researcher will be responsible for reviewing research outcomes from PETRAS projects, generalising lessons learned across projects and industry sectors and contributing to the Hub’s research agenda and delivery programme. You will be expected to collaborate with partners on projects across the Hub and to contribute to research activities with particular focus in security of cyber-physical systems and embedded devices.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in delivering research outcomes in security and/or safety of IoT systems with particular focus on sensors and embedded devices, including threat and security analysis, adversarial behaviours, secure architectures, secure communications, systems management and re-configuration for security. You will have experience in the development of practical solutions. An appreciation of the physical and human factors involved in designing for security would be a plus. This is a challenging role that offers significant growth potential for the right candidate.    

To apply you must have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a relevant engineering discipline. A proven research record with publications in the relevant areas is also required.  You must be fluent in English. 

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 to £34,040 per annum.
