Senior Lecturer in Medical Education (Health Professional Masters and International Liaison)

Faculty of Education & Health Sciences, Graduate Entry Medical School

The University of Limerick (UL) with over 13,000 students and 1,300 staff is an energetic and enterprising institution with a proud record of innovation and excellence in education, research and scholarship. The University of Limerick’s bid for a Graduate Entry Medical School was successful in 2007 and the first intake of students was admitted in Autumn of that year. The School’s operation has now grown to an annual intake of 140 medical students, with the seventh cohort graduated in June 2017, as well as the first Paramedic Studies degree programme in Ireland with an annual intake of 25 students. The GEMS supports a growing number of post-graduate scholars, currently numbering 35.  A unique PBL-centred approach to adult learning has proved highly effective and popular across both programmes. The School benefits from a purpose built €18m building on the beautiful North Campus, containing state-of-the-art education and simulation facilities and leading-edge research facilities.

A €14m jointly UL/HSE funded Clinical Education & Research Centre (CERC) building  is on site at the University Hospital Limerick, the major hospital base for clinical students, and this has also been equipped with leading edge facilities. Students undertake their clinical training at one of 6 affiliate teaching hospitals in Limerick and adjoining health regions, and have a unique 18 week attachment at one of more than 120 General Practices across Ireland. The School’s clinical teaching and research programmes are supported by more than 300 adjunct academic staff.
