Teaching Fellow (part-time post)

University of Bath - Skills Centre

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the University’s Skills Centre for a part-time (0.5 fte) Teaching Fellow in English for Academic Purposes.

Established for over 25 years, the Centre is responsible for the delivery of a wide range of academic and language skills to students at all levels and requires this post to join its existing teaching team to work on its BALEAP-accredited Pre-sessional and academic skills programme for home and international students. Teaching responsibilities will include the delivery of lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials together with the development of new teaching materials, printed and digital.

Applicants should hold a first degree and a postgraduate qualification related to English language teaching or equivalent, for example, Diploma in English language teaching, MA in Applied Linguistics or TESOL or equivalent combination of experience and study. This should be further supported by proven knowledge and experience of teaching English for Academic Purposes in a higher education context, ideally native and non-native speakers.

You must be a strong team player, able to work on your own initiative within a dynamic and demanding environment. A track record in the delivery of a high quality student learning experience is essential. You will have the benefit of joining a thriving and highly successful Skills Centre, comprising 60 staff, supporting the University community in designing and delivering skills development opportunities to home and international students, and working with academic and other Professional Services colleagues across its campus.

This post is part time (18.25 hours per week). Contract hours vary across the year with full-time work for five weeks on one of our summer pre-sessional courses and fewer hours during the academic year. Hours during the academic year include at least one evening per week. There is some flexibility on the timetabling of these hours, particularly hours devoted to tutorials.

For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Miranda Armstrong, Head of Academic Skills Programmes (01225 383138 or m.armstrong@bath.ac.uk).
