The Opportunity

USP seeks a leader to direct and oversee all aspects of the USP Kiribati Campus including the recruiting and admissions process of students, marketing, budgets, class scheduling, and faculty interests. The applicant should have ideally 3 years teaching experience in a Higher Educational Institute. In addition, the Campus Director is responsible for the effective and timely delivery of courses in the different modes offered; works in developing, directing, and administering activities such as continuing and community education and training programmes; and ensures the continuing viability of all campus activities. The Director is also responsible for staffing and the business and financial management of the campus. Serves as the on-site chief administrative officer and ensures that established policies and procedures of the University are carried out. The Campus Director plans, oversees, and coordinates capital and operating expenditures and financial systems and provides strong leadership and direction in the generation and development of additional revenue sources.

As the University’s liaison person with government and the USP representative in Kiribati, she/he is expected to maintain close and amicable links with relevant government departments and ministries and to expedite communication between the government and the university; liaise closely with the schools, sponsors, donors, and other stakeholders, as well as media organisations.

The Person We Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • A PhD in education or a field relevant to development
  • Extensive work experience in the area of educational development, with a sound understanding of university management and administration.
  • Ideally 3 years of teaching experience in a Higher Education Institute.

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Ideally 5 to 7 years working experience in the above responsibilities is required.
  • Significant relevant work experience in the Pacific region would be an advantage.
  • Experience in teaching education, science, or a field relevant to development at vocational and undergraduate levels.
  • Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.
  • Highly computer literate.
  • Experience and knowledge of flexible and continuing education programmes.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritising, and scheduling work assignments.

The position is available for a term of 3 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.

Salary Range: The University will provide a competitive remuneration package to the successful applicant (inclusive of 15% Gratuity).

In addition, the University contributes 10% of basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme, and airfare and relocation costs where appropriate. Educational opportunities are also provided for the appointee’s family to study at the University of the South Pacific at a substantial discount.
