Evaluation Officer

We are looking for a motivated individual with a demonstrable interest in International Development and/or Higher Education as well as research and/or evaluation experience to join our Evaluation & Monitoring team as an Evaluation Officer.

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) is a non-departmental public body responsible for managing Britain’s contribution to the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) provides its Secretariat. The Commission offers around 900 awards annually for postgraduate study and professional development to individuals from across the Commonwealth.

As Evaluation Officer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the development of new qualitative and case study approaches to scholarship evaluation including new data collection methods and analysis.
  • Collecting, analysing and reporting quantitative and qualitative data as required in a variety of contexts and for a range of audiences.
  • Managing distinct projects as required, such as the counterfactual research exercise or processes relating to the evaluation of specific award schemes, including planning, survey design and administration as well as analysis and reporting.
  • Leading on internal engagement to ensure the long term success of the evaluation programme, including preparing sessions at scholar events such as the Welcome and Farewell events, accompanying Programme Officers on site visits and preparing briefings for Commissioners.

Some of the skills and experience you need to be able to demonstrate include:

  • A high level of competency in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Access, as well as database skills and/or an aptitude for learning new systems.
  • Experience with data collection, analysis and reporting including experience with statistical and survey software packages.
  • Excellent research and written communication skills and the ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Commitment to team work, whilst being able to work independently, show initiative and exercise sound judgement.
  • A high level of motivation and flexibility, and the ability to organise and take responsibility for your own work and for seeing tasks through to completion.
  • The ability to communicate at all levels, with strong oral and written communication skills, with scholars and alumni from all over the world as well as their sponsors and host institutions and internal and external colleagues.
  • An interest in/experience of the higher education sector and/or international development
