The Opportunity

The appointee will join a dynamic team of educators and researchers in the School of Education and contribute to the teaching of courses in mathematics education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The appointee will work closely with teachers in the in-service primary and secondary programmes and prospective teachers in pre-service 4-year secondary teacher education programme, preparing them to teach mathematics. He/she is expected to supervise students on teaching practice and develop mathematics education materials for delivery through distance learning modes.

The Person We Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • A PhD in Mathematics Education as a major area of study; or, in exceptional cases, a PhD in Mathematics with significant tertiary teaching experience in mathematics.
  • A qualified teacher status either at the primary, secondary, or tertiary level.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in mathematics or mathematics education, with professional/research experience and a record of successful teaching at the primary/secondary/tertiary level(s).
  • Strong quantitative research and statistical data analysis experience.
  • A strong record of internationally recognised research and publications.
  • The ability work co-operatively in a term-oriented environment and evidence of this should be provided.
  • For appointment at the Senior Lecturer level you must have a strong record of published research in top-tier journals and books with either a formal tertiary teaching qualification or significant tertiary teaching experience.

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Strong quantitative research and statistical data analysis experience.
  • Work experience in developing countries.
  • Working with students for whom English is a second language.
  • Experience in distance, flexible, and open learning; teacher education; computer studies education.
  • Proven research interests in mathematics or mathematics education.
  • Teaching and supervision at the postgraduate level.

The position is available for a term of 5 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.

Salary Range:

  • Lecturer: FJ$66,990 to FJ$88,144 per annum.
  • Senior lecturer: FJ$90,882 to FJ$104,865 per annum.

In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides airfare and relocation costs where appropriate.
