Placements, Employability and External Relationships Officer

Contract Type: Maternity Cover – Start date 5th March 2018 until 22nd February 2019.
Working Pattern: Part-time 0.6FTE, working pattern to be agreed

The Department of Urban Studies & Planning are recruiting for a Placements, Employability and External Relationship (PEER) Officer on an 11 month fixed-term contract. We are seeking applications from a proactive and flexible individual with excellent interpersonal skills and relevant work experience. The PEER Officer is responsible for developing, implementing and promoting USP’s placement and Graduate Employability strategy. The PEER Officer supports students to find and excel within their placements, working closely with the Careers Service and Careers and Employability Tutor, the post holder will deliver employability sessions, arrange careers fairs and engage with employers and recruiters. 

Our external reputation and relationships are key to our success and that of our students and alumni. The Placement, Employability and External Relationship (PEER) Officer runs a highly successful placements scheme for many of our students and supports employability activities to ensure outstanding results for our graduate destinations. In addition to our relationships with employers and placement providers, we also have an active Employer Liaison Board, with representative local and national professionals, and a vibrant alumni network, which we are seeking to further develop.

You will be based in the Professional Service Staff Team within USP, line managed by the Departmental Manager. You will work closely with and supervise the “Communications & External Engagement Assistant”, a year-long rolling student placement position in the department.

You will have a good honours degree or equivalent experience and experience of working within the administrative function of a university, public or business environment. In addition, you will have knowledge of the employability agenda, the graduate labour market, along with excellent communication skills, and experience of delivering presentations and communicating to staff at all levels.
