Part Time Admissions Officer (Progression)

University of Bath - Student Recruitment & Admissions

We are seeking a part-time member of staff to support our Admissions Manager (Progression) in contributing towards the University’s ambitious widening participation agenda in Admissions. You will be based in our centralised UG Admissions Team, and ideally have experience of working in an admissions role or detailed knowledge of the UCAS application process. This is a busy and varied role with a wide range of responsibilities, and the opportunity to work with both colleagues across the university and external stakeholders.

You will contribute significantly to the University’s implementation of contextual admissions, using data and information to recommend decisions on UCAS applications from our WP target groups. You will liaise with our Selection Team and Admissions Tutors to make sure that decisions strike a balance between being equitable and also meeting our WP agenda. You will specialise in less traditional routes to Higher Education, and play a significant role in the organisation and conducting of applicant interviews. You will manage enquiries from applicants and their advisers relating to WP matters, resolving complex queries, particularly from our most vulnerable applicants, in a sensitive and professional manner. You will use data and reporting tools as well as your own research to inform your work, and will occasionally assist the Admissions Manager (Progression) in producing written reports for members of staff across the Directorate and wider University.

You will help to plan and deliver a range of outreach activities to WP target groups. You will present information advice and guidance about the admissions process to a variety of audiences, such as mature students in local FE colleges and participants on events run by our Widening Participation Team. You will have the opportunity to both interact with large groups and provide guidance in one-to-one situations, and will have the ability to deliver complex information in a clear, friendly and appropriate manner. You will liaise regularly with colleagues across the University who also share responsibility for our WP target groups, such as Funding, Student Recruitment, Widening Participation, Widening Participation, Student Services and the Careers Service.

We are looking for an individual with a varied skill-set due to the wide-reaching demands of the role. The post-holder will need excellent organisation, attention to detail, data analysis and written communication skills to excel in the more inwards-facing aspects of the role. They will also need excellent interpersonal skills, verbal communication skills and presentation skills for the more outwards-facing responsibilities.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to an interesting and up-coming area of widening participation work within an admissions context. The post is based on campus (BA2 7AY) but, occasionally, you may be required to work at our centrally-based Virgil Building (BA1 1JN) and travel to local schools and colleges will be required from time-to-time.

This position is part time (21.90 hours per week).

For an informal discussion about this post please contact Hannah Thompson on 01225 386633 or via e-mail h.e.thompson@bath.ac.uk.
