Research Officer - Engine Testing

Salary: £29,799 to £33,518 per annum

We are a leading internal combustion engine research group, specialising in both experimental and modelling techniques. The group was awarded the prestigious position of Internal Combustion Engines - Thermal Efficiency Spoke by the UK’s Advanced Propulsion Centre ( We are looking for a research officer to operate our new state of the art test facility. The role will involve:

  • Execution of test programs developed in collaboration with the other researchers and students in the centre
  • Day to day management of the centre's test rigs and engines including undertaking safety checks, ensuring equipment is correctly maintained and calibrated
  • Processing, checking and reporting of test results and working with other researchers in the centre, contributing to the dissemination of research results through conferences and journal publications
  • Working with the centre's technicians, supporting the design, building and commissioning of new engines and test rigs

This role would ideally suit a practically minded individual with a degree in engineering or a person with extensive experience in running combustion engines or similar experimental devices in a research environment. Although not essential, mechanical fitting and electrical skills would be beneficial.
